Song for captain?
He's played a real captains role in every game for us. His influence is there for all to see

Perhaps if he was made captain it might be the deciding factor in getting him signed on a permanent deal

Then again it might just put other contenders noses out of joint if/when he up sticks & moves on in the summer

Re: SONG for captain?
Is that an Ann Summers or Sunday Sport influence there?

"Thus, the Hammers can offer the £80k and departing players will create more room for them to beat off other clubs who may try to tempt the Cameroon international."

Nolan is captain, then Noble, who should wear the armband full time , once Nolan steps down.

The captaincy of West Ham should never, NEVER, be used as some kind of bribe to ANYONE.

Song will stay anyway, captain or not.

Re: SONG for captain?
We also have one other problem chaps!
If all of this information is in the public domain why would Reid not ask for a matching clause or more than his supposed demands of 65k?
As I posted elsewhere I think he has been tapped already - if he does not sign a new contract before the new year he is gone - where I don't know.

Chelsea - no not needed
Man City - no not needed
Man Utd - Maybe but they have loads unless they unload plus is he good enough on the ball
Arsenal - I don't think he fits with Arsene's total football
Liverpool on a free - maybe
Everton on a free - maybe
Abroad - possibly

If he only wants 65k why do they not offer it and tie him down - it makes no sense to lose an important player.

One thing I like about him even though before I thought he was a bit of a clogger - have we ever seen him in a compromising media position or is he looking after himself and his career so far?

If what I'm led to believe from the OSers is true, keeping the likes of Song should be a formality.

"Beat off" is one of the more unfortunate sporting terms still in use.

That being said, if we can keep Alex, we should be willing to do whatever it takes.

Re: SONG for captain?
According to Southon. Had to laugh at Nolan being the third highest earner. IF (MASSIVE if) that's true it's fucking ridiculous.

'West Ham have done the Alex Song sums and can find his £80k a week wages despite Financial Fair Play Regulations.

ClaretandHugh reported today that the club are ready to mount a big bid to take the player from Barcelona on a permanent deal next summer and we have since learned that wages are not an issue.

The Irons are at the upper limit of this year’s FFP £56m and that will automatically rise by £4m to £60m next season.

Song is thought to want £80,000 per week to stay at the club which can be covered by the £4m.

Thus, the Hammers can offer the £80k and departing players will create more room for them to beat off other clubs who may try to tempt the Cameroon international.

Although Financial Fair Play may not be a big issue it could however trigger a wave a demands from agents and players wanting to re-negotiate contract terms..

Andy Carroll is currently the top earner with a basic with £85,000; Song would become second highest earner with Nolan in third and Downing in forth places.

West Ham success on the pitch may raise the value of our players and by default their wage demands as West Ham move to the next level.

Song has made it clear that he wants to stay in England and his wife is particularly happy in London so the Hammers fancy their chances of landing the 27 year old.'

Re: SONG for captain?
I would have thought more likely imo Barca bid for him and I suppose Wenger thought take the money as otherwise he will only be unsettled plus they will pay him more.
Seriously though if he keeps on like he does he could be the missing piece for Wenger next year or maybe even Man Utd.

Does anyone bloody know if we are paying all of his wages and what they are or not?

Come on Bag surely no way - Arsenal tell Song he can go and Barca say thanks - no way!

It is also possible that Wenger could step down at the end of the season, especially if Arsenal don't achieve much!

Re: Song for captain?
I would love him to stay and sign perm but in my heart I feel that someone bigger will come in and offer him more - that is football sadly regardless of how happy he is.

Does anyone know if we are paying all of his wages or just part of them as playing for Barca I would have thought he is on bundles?
